Most female students in China dream of becoming public relations officers, fashion models and pop stars, a survey has found.

About 65 per cent of 235 students from three middle schools in Beijing who indicated these choices also said they hoped to grow up looking good and possessing the charisma to help them realise their dreams.

The students, aged 13 to 18, were asked to pick from 10 kinds of jobs, including doctors and scientists, but the most popular choices turned out to be public relations, modelling, singing and acting. read more

N.Y. Police Say Model's Murder Solved
Twenty years after a rising French-Canadian fashion model was stabbed to death in her apartment, police have named her alleged killer: A top broadcaster known as the king of Montreal's high-flying early '80s disco scene. Radio and television personality Alain Montpetit confessed to at least two women that he attacked Elite agency model Marie Josee St. Antoine in the foyer of her apartment, New York Police Detective Stefano Braccini said in an interview this week. Montpetit died of a cocaine overdose in a Washington hotel five years after St. Antoine was killed. read more

Gucci issues new warning as luxury trade dries up
Luxury goods group Gucci yesterday issued its second profits warning in three months, saying that its up-market customers were being deterred by the precarious. Domenico De Sole, the chief executive, issued the warning a week before the Florence-based group was due to issue its third quarter results.Mr De Sole said: "Since the summer, trends in luxury goods have been volatile. Trading was weak in July and August. A much better sales performance in September and October gave us confidence... however, trading conditions deteriorated in November convincing management that it is no longer possible to achieve our previously published guidance." He slashed the group's diluted earnings per share forecast by 23% to 2 euros. read more

The latest fashion news to generate debate is the possibility that the term "wife beater" may get an additional definition in the next edition of the Oxford English Dictionary. The term clearly refers to a husband who physically abuses his spouse, but those oblivious to constantly evolving fashion jargon may not know that it also is a common descriptor for tank top, sleeveless undershirts, usually white and ribbed. read more
