Bay. South of Melbourne is the Southern Peninsula which is a popular holiday destination for Melbournites. Its has sheltered bay side beaches and ocean surf beaches. It has also become a popular wine district with 150 vineyards and more than 30 wineries.
The Belarine Peninsula is on the western side of the bay. Quiet coastal towns such as Queenscliffe offer a relaxing place to stay before exploring the south-west coast.
The great Ocean Road starts from Torquay, a popular destination for surfers, and heads along the south-west coast to the South Australian border. There are many towns to stop at along the way and just about every bend in the road has spectacular scenery.
