Rockhampton 'Rocky', as it is affectionately known, is situated on the Tropic of Capricorn. Access to Great Keppel Island is possible by boat from Yeppoon, the sea side township east of Rockhampton. West of Rockhampton is the Capricorn Hinterland where Carnarvon George and the Blackdown Tablelands National parks are located. The gem fields are located about 300km west of Rockhampton. Further west still is Longreach, home of the Stockman Hall of Fame and Qantas. A short distance north of Rockhampton is Olsen's limestone caves.
