Cairns is arguably the capital of the far north. It is a popular tourist destination

and there is an international airport. There is ample accommodation for all budgets. It also boasts restaurants and cafes with all the modern conveniences of a larger city. Beach is limited in Cairns but lying just north are Trinity Beach and Palm Cove which are very picturesque. Further north of Cairns is attractive Port Douglas, where accommodation abounds in the bustling main village.
